Lesson 1 : Diplomacy – in the context of Singapore

Objectives :
It is hoped that by the end of the lesson, you will be able to:

- Define what ‘diplomacy is’
- Reflect on your prior knowledge on ‘diplomacy’ in the context of Singapore
- Edit misconceptions as new knowledge is learnt
- Add on new knowledge on ‘diplomacy’ in the context of Singapore

Task 1: KWL and mindmap
The following tasks are meant to help you organise information on diplomacy as you gather and learn new knowledge:

1a.) KWL - Complete Worksheet 1.

- Save a copy of the Worksheet 1.


- Step 1 : Type what you know K that is, your prior knowledge on ‘diplomacy’ and W that is, what you would want to learn
- For this step, think in the context of Singapore, e.g. Who are our diplomats, what are their responsibilities, why is it necessary to carry out diplomatic relations, when do they practise such relations (that is, under what circumstances do they practise diplomatic relations) and how do they carry out such relations?
- Step 2 : Refer to the recommended resources in the box below. You may also use any other relevant sources. Read the sections related to ‘diplomacy’.
